I'm so sorry you went through this. It all sounds very much like what i experienced, and you're right ~ we can talk. The more who do, the better.
As to owing money: would-be Landmark recruiters do that all the time. They pay, or pay the deposit, etc, to trap you into going and to make you feel obligated. The same rhing happened to me. It didn't even sound as if you wanted to sign up, but were more or less duped into it. I also went because i felt obligated to my recruiter, (who paid my deposit).
I know it sounds bad, but i wouldn't sweat the money. She knew that she was manipulating you. This is speculation, but now that i think of it, it probably wasn't even her money. That might even be a partial answer to what they do with all that money.
I'll bet they recycle some of it. They probably give it to recruiters to rope people in, and knowing that that very same money will be returning to their coffers immediately, and hopefully with more to follow from their reluctant recruits. Had the woman ever given you a dime before? Then she forks over $600 for you to take Landmark, even though you told her that you really weren't interested???
Your post really made me think about that. People at Landmark just drop several hundred dollars for someone they hardly know to take some course all the time. People generally don't do that. It's just more of their manipulation and gaslighting, with some guilt thrown in.
Think about it. It was probably already their money, anyway. It cost them nothing. It's nothing but a hook that they reuse, over and over again. I hung around there for about a year, and i wouldn't put it past them. They engage in all kinds of deceitful practices. In the meantime, people keep paying, from their sense of obligation. Why pay it? It sounds like they owe you a refund anyway, but it will be like pulling teeth to get it, after 18 months.
Yep, some of us are trying to get the word out. Better yet, some of us are hoping to get them shut down, and hopefully thrown in prison. These people are sick.
