Hi, I did The Forum and The Advanced Course 6 years ago in the UK.
In a nutshell, the good bits that worked for you are why they are able to keep going. They take elements of psychology that works and pass them on with new terminology to make them sound fresh. If it was all bad, then the business would have folded by now. So I say, its fine to hang on to the good but you probably don't need their words for that. CBT, for example, uses elements of the story v the fact. eg: if someone ignores you one day, it might be nothing to do with you but what is going on in their lives and maybe they didn't even see you.
And in a world where many people feel alone or are expected to go it alone, coming together with a group of people and finding the inner strength to improve your life with their support is a powerful experience. That was the reason I joined up in the first place. I kind of knew it was a con, but meeting the other participants and feeling part of a larger force was comforting to me. And that made me feel stronger.
But at its core, Landmark isn't about solving the Middle East crisis - something they tried to sell us in on my Forum - or making us all understand one another, its a way of making money using mostly free volunteers. Very few people are paid to work for Landmark. They seem to rely on that to survive.
I spent a considerable time on this site when I realised something was wrong about my whole experience. And I didn't only read up on Landmark. I looked at other LGAT threads too. And then you start to see the patterns of how they work and abuse people.
And I have no doubt they attempted to brainwash me. And I've worked out the moments when/how. And I'm so grateful that my subconscious woke me up and got me out of there. And I'm not blaming myself for this either. I'm a bright, well read person but at that moment in my life, I wanted to believe in something. So I fell for this con.
Looking back because I experienced minimal damage compared to some stories I've read on here, I feel lucky and use the experience as a valuable life lesson. I hope you'll be able to in time. Glad to know that some areas of your life have improved for you.
